New Rhode Island Bill

AMTA is excited to announce that the Rhode Island Governor recently signed a bill that improves standards for the massage therapy profession. Highlights from the bill include:

  • An increase in initial required massage therapy education from 500 to 650 hours of supervised in-class, hands-on courses and clinical work.

  • A mandate that the department of health investigate all complaints, including allegations by any person, entity, license or organization related to the practice of massage therapy.

  • Changes to the examining board to ensure that the majority of its members will be licensed massage therapists.

The new bill which sets the standards for continuing education also requires the board to create an annual report with detailed actions and recommendations. Congratulations to the AMTA Rhode Island Chapter on advancing the massage therapy profession in your state!
