Facilitated Stretching for Massage Therapists 8CE

Presented by Bob McAtee

Course Approved by NCBTMB (Provider # 294954-00) and through CE Broker for Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Course Description:
Many massage therapists would like to include effective stretches in their client sessions but feel they don’t have the training or expertise to perform the stretches correctly. In this seminar, you'll acquire the the training to include a repertoire of useful stretches in your sessions.

Facilitated Stretching is a safe, simple, yet dramatically effective stretching technique that can be used with a wide variety of clients to regain or improve flexibility.  It’s easy to learn and to incorporate into your current massage practice.

Facilitated stretching, combined with soft tissue work, will enable the practitioner to obtain greater overall success in client treatment sessions.  Additionally, a program of self-stretching using these techniques can be invaluable for clients in their home stretching programs.

Learning Objectives:

1. Students will demonstrate proficiency in discussing the various types of stretching.
2. Students will demonstrate proficiency in performing ROM assessment tests prior to stretching.
3. Students will demonstrate proficiency in describing the stretching protocol to a client.
4. Students will list the origin, insertion, and actions of the muscles to be stretched.
5. Students will list the common compensation patterns associated with each stretching procedure.
6. Students will demonstrate proficiency in administering a sample treatment session.
7. Students will demonstrate proficiency in designing a stretching treatment session.
8. Students will demonstrate the ability to improvise stretches not covered in the class material.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this workshop, participants will:
1. Be able to discuss the theoretical basis and principles underlying the development and use of Facilitated Stretching.

2. Be able to perform effective facilitated stretches for the muscle groups covered in class.
