Manual Therapy to Eliminate Multiple Nerve Compression Patterns of the Upper Body

Instructor: James Waslaski

Description:

1 Day Saturday 8:30AM - 6:30PM

State of the art anatomy and nerve graphics will allow manual therapists to look inside the human body. Starting with the brain and spinal cord, therapists will use positional release, muscle energy techniques, and soft tissue balancing protocols to address OA & C1-C2 fixations, cervical kyphosis (military neck), spinal stenosis patterns, stuck facet joints, and treat sprains and strains throughout the upper body. Nerve tests include: Spurling Test: spinal nerve compression; Eden’s Test: costo-clavicular syndrome; Adson’s Test: scalene and first rib involvement ; Wright Abduction Test: pectoralis minor involvement; Tests to identify Cubital Tunnel and Guyon’s Canal (ulnal tunnel) conditions; Test for Bicipital Aponeurosis tendinosis: median nerve scarring; Pronator Teres Test: median nerve entrapment; and Tests for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome including the Tinnel’s Test, Phalen’s Test, and Tethered Median Nerve tests. Complicated shoulder capsular adhesions will also be addressed, and home care retraining will include spinal decompression, nerve glides and nerve tensioning protocols.

Manual Therapy to Eliminate Multiple Nerve Compression Patterns of the Lower Body

Instructor: James Waslaski

Description:

State of the art anatomy and nerve graphics will allow manual therapists to look inside the human body. The Weber-Barstow Maneuver, and Supine to Sits Test will evaluate for functional versus anatomical leg length discrepancies. Pelvic stabilization will use positional release, muscle energy techniques, and muscle balancing protocols to address sacral torsion patterns, iliosacral upslips, joint capsular patterns, femoral nerve compression, and normal muscle firing patterns. Therapists will level the sacral base, and release the Sacrotuberous ligament for sciatic nerve pain. The Straight Leg Test and Braggard’s Test will identify L5/ SI bulges or herniated discs. The Slump Test will identify hamstring strains or adductor strains that scar down the Sciatic Nerve. Tibial Torsions and Fixated Fibular Head Conditions will be corrected, by releasing the biceps femoris muscle, to address the Tibial and Fibular Nerve Entrapments. Manual therapists will also evaluate and release Tarasal Tunnel and Morton’s Neuroma.  Home care retraining will include nerve glides and nerve tensioning protocols.

With over 70% of our client base being woman in their child-bearing years, prenatal massage is an extremely important modality to be able to offer your client! In this course, we will cover everything from intake, room and table set up, techniques, body mechanics, pressure, contraindications, and follow up. Learn techniques that will meet specific needs of your pregnant client, all while making sure that your body mechanics are protected

We will discuss and demonstrate everything you need to provide a comfortable and confident prenatal massage session. Pregnant clients have a whole set of complaints not common to your other clients. This class has been taught to over 2000 therapists since 2014, don't turn away a client that desperately needs relief!

Side Lying: It's Not Just for Pregnancy Anymore

Description:

Side Lying! It's not just for pregnancy! How do you sleep? Have you lost clients and aren't sure why? Do you sometimes (or all the time) hurt? Side Lying massage could be the answer you're looking for!

Recent surgeries, medication ports, larger breasted clients, joint injuries, sinuses.....and just about everybody will be more comfortable laying on their side, and the benefit to the therapist is unlimited. Less pain, longer careers and happier clients that provide financial stability. In this class we will learn how to approach side lying, set up a room and table, techniques to meet specific needs such as post op shoulder or hip issues and how to work smarter.

Essential Sports Massage - Lower Body

Instructor: Mark Capriotti

Description:

 Essential Sports Massage: Lower Body establishes a template for providing Sports Massage therapy to athletes and teams competing at all levels. At the conclusion of this course, the participant will have gained practical knowledge regarding how to approach a “real-life” day of work at a recreational, collegiate, or professional athletic facility.

In addition to discussion of Sports Massage theory and technique, this class gives insight into the daily functions and responsibilities of a Sports Massage Therapist, etiquette, scope of practice, and how/ where the modality fits into the larger picture of modern Sports Medicine. 

The participant will learn how to analyze sport-specific movements and demands on the lower body to determine how they contribute to overuse and potential dysfunction/ injury. They will learn to identify specific muscles and muscle groups of the lower body, test the muscle for strength/ dysfunction, and apply the appropriate treatment technique(s). The concepts presented can be applied to individual athlete sessions as well as entire teams.

This course is an exciting 16 CE class which offers a mix of theory/ discussion, hands-on lab time, and interactive learning.  

Written and presented by high-level sports massage professionals, Essential Sports Massage: Lower Body provides a unique and practical look into the expectations, demands, and gratification of working with athletes.
